Product Layering
Product layering is the technique of applying your skincare in the correct sequence to ensure each product can be absorbed effectively and deliver its maximum benefits. The order is crucial because some products can create a barrier that prevents others from penetrating the skin. Mastering this method ensures that your carefully chosen ingredients can work in synergy, not against each other.
The golden rule of layering is simple: apply your products from the thinnest consistency to the thickest. This generally means starting with watery liquids like toners or essences, followed by more viscous serums, and finishing with thicker creams, lotions, and oils. This is because thin formulas cannot penetrate through heavier, more occlusive ones. The one exception is sunscreen, which is always the last skincare step in your morning routine.
To get the most out of your routine, allow each layer a minute to absorb before applying the next to prevent pilling. It’s also important to be mindful of the active ingredients you’re combining to avoid irritation. At sylvaia, we teach you this essential technique so you can unlock the full potential of your products, whether your routine is minimal or more complex.
